After two years without musicals, a new musical is coming to Austin! Because of the absence of students and a solid theater, the Austin Playhouse was unable to put on shows all of last year and for almost half of the previous one, it’s last one being Once Upon a Mattress. However, now students have the chance to see an authentic Austin Playhouse musical this weekend!
The Musical is called “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee,” which is about a spelling contest between three quirky students, being judged by three equally quirky adults. Showing times include this Friday, at October 1st at 7:00 pm, and Saturday, October 2nd at 2:00 pm and 7:00 pm.
This musical is the first of a series of productions the Austin Playhouse will be performing throughout the year, but it is a Musical, so make sure not to miss out!
“Yeah I think it’ll turn out amazing,” says Travis Blanks, who plays William Morris Barfee, “We haven’t had a lot of time, but despite that, I think we’ve done a lot of great work!”
Admission is $5 for students, and $10 for adults. All performances will take place in the Austin High School Gymnasium.
